Orphans and some elderly people at Man’oro primary school in Chikomba East constituency, about 200 kilometres south east of Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, received a donation of goods worth ZWL$20 000 from the Reactions of Orphans Association, (ROSA) recently.

Those who benefited included 60 orphans and 20 elderly people and they each got a 10 kg bag of mealie meal, two litres of cooking oil and one kilogramme of beans.

Speaking to ZTN after the handover ceremony, ROSA coordinating director Forbes Chikobvu, said the organization took this initiative to help orphans and the elderly in the constituency who are in need of help.

‘’We are doing this because it is our duty to help orphans and other people who need help be it food, cash or school fees.‘’We made the donations because we have noted that some students come to school on empty stomachs, and this disturbs them from learning, ‘’ said Chikobvu.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, one of the beneficiaries Sabina Marufu, who takes care of orphans at her house, said she was grateful to ROSA as the donation would alleviate poverty in the community.

‘’This will go a long way to help orphans who cannot afford to buy basic commodities in shops,” Marufu said.

ROSA was formed in 2004 and helps vulnerable people such as orphans and the elderly through a partnership with the Moslem community based in Germany.
