2 miners killed as Zimbabwe gold mine shaft collapses

Two miners died while 18 others are trapped underground at Globe and Phoenix gold mine in Kwekwe after a shaft collapsed on Wednesday night.

Kwekwe district development coordinator Fortune Mpungu confirmed the incident to our Kwekwe correspondent.

Officials at the mine disclosed that the incident was only discovered on Thursday morning when the 20 miners who were on night shift did not return to knock off at around 6am as per tradition.

Rescue efforts are currently underway.
