2019 “A” Level results hit 83% pass rate

The wait is over for Zimbabwe’s 2019 Advanced Level results.

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council, Zimsec board chairman, Professor Eddie Mwenje on Tuesday afternoon announced the results with an 83 percent pass rate, a 1.2 percent improvement from 2018.

A total of 51 862 students sat for the examinations.

“The total number of students who sat for the 2019 November examinations increased by 5384 from 46 478 in 2018 which translates to an increase of 11.6%,” read a statement by Professor Mwenje.

According to the statement, 19 877 female candidates sat for the exams. 19 689 of them wrote two or more subjects and 17 525 passed two or more subjects, registering an 89% pass rate.

“22 666 male candidates sat for the exams and registered a pass rate of 84.5%. 22 468 wrote two or more subjects and 18 990 passed two or more subjects.”

Special needs candidates registered a pass rate of 63.6%, with 35 students out of 55 candidates having managed to pass two or three subjects.

However, candidates studying sciences registered a poor pass score.

“…out 17 749 candidates who registered to write Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics 5610 passed two or more subjects with grade E or better to register a 31.6% pass rate,”  Professor Mwenje said.
