236 Zim pupils contract Covid-19
A total of 236 pupils at schools in Zimbabwe have tested positive for Covid-19, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has said.
At a weekly post-Cabinet media briefing in the capital, Harare, Minister Mutsvangwa said the cases were mild.
“Cabinet was informed that on 16th April 2021, more outbreaks were reported at two boarding schools, namely: at St. Davids Bonda Girls School, in Manicaland, and Embakwe High School in Plumtree.
“One hundred and forty-five (145) and ninety-one (91) learners tested positive, respectively. Government would like to reassure the nation that the situation is under control and all the cases are mild and asymptomatic.”
Zimbabwe, like other nations, has been battling Covid-19 for over a year now, with the threat of resurgence lingering.
To date, the Southern African country has recorded 37 875 cases and local transmissions account for most of them.
Authorities are rolling out a vaccination programme.
