Zimbabwe was plunged into mourning this week following the death of legendary comedian Lazarus Boora.

While his death has been overshadowed by that of socialite Genius Kadungure who also passed on this week, he has not been forgotten, with tributes pouring in from all walks of life.

On the other side of the Limpopo, Johannesburg based visual artiste Thomas Mwasangwale also paid his last respects the best way he knows how, drawing an amazing portrait of the comedian.

In an interview with ZTN Mwasangwale said Gringo is a legend who entertained many Zimbabweans, giving viewers the medicine to laugh and forget their problems.

“I have always been Gringo’s fan from day one. I did that drawing in a space of two hours in tribute to him,” said Mwasangwale.

“I can call him the king of comedy because he didn’t force matters, he would just say something and it would be funny.

“While I didn’t know him personally, I knew some of the people he worked with, including Mbudziyadhura and Enock Chihombori who created the character as a cartoon in Kwayedza.

I have been following Gringo through his cartoons before the character came alive on TV.”

He added that while he cannot say much about the late Gringo, his art was going to do the talking for him.
