Renovations at Ascot stadium in Gweru have been completed in compliance with Confederation of African Football’s infrastructural development programme, which is being implemented by the Zimbabwe football association.

Zifa’s First Instance Body which deals with stadium inspection and standardisation of football in the country had recommended refurbishment at the Gweru based stadium early this year for it to be able to host topflight league matches.

This had forced Gweru based teams, Chapungu and TelOne to look for alternative venues outside the city. But the refurbishment of the stadium, with the help of the two teams, is complete and they are back to their fortress.

“We have addressed the areas we were told to and we are done now,” said TelOne president Lloyd Mtetwa.

“We have notified the authorities and now we are waiting for inspection, but I am confident we have done enough to play our next home game in Gweru.”

Chapungu, was using Mandava and TelOne Luveve for their home matches.

The renovations at Ascot have seen an improved turf, the construction of a VIP and media area.

What remains is the inspection and approval by the authorities, for the facility to be used.
