Thirty-five Zimbabweans who have been resident in Botswana since 2008 have been deported after failing to register for voluntary repatriation.
The latest deportation follows last month’s repatriation of 200 other Zimbabweans.
The Department of Immigration’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Memory Mugwagwa said: “On the 15th of April 2021 we received 35 refugees who were deported from Botswana.
“The thirty-five have since been reunited with their families, with the help of the Department of Social Welfare,” she added.
Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says it will continue to assist the people who were repatriated. Each person received US$520 and a food package. The agency said there will be no such assistance for those who are deported.
