Britain pledges support as drought stalks Zimbabwe

An estimated 5 million people in Zimbabwe need food aid to stave off hunger through to the 2020 harvest. A severe drought that affected crop harvests in the 2018-2019 farming season has led to food shortages in the southern African country.

As the drought takes a toll, the British government has pledged to assist Zimbabwe with food aid.

The Director for Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Harriet Mathews met President Mnangagwa at his Munhumutapa offices on Wednesday where she pledged support.
