ZIMBABWE cricket captain Sean Williams believes the Chevrons have taken huge steps forward despite a 2-1 T20 series loss to Pakistan.

Going into the third match on Sunday, the series was level at 1-1 and Pakistan had to dig deep against what Williams describes as a “young Zimbabwean side”.

For that reason, there is hope Zimbabwe can again mount a big challenge when the test series start on Thursday at Harare Sports Club.

“It was a very good series with a young side,” Sean Williams was quoted as saying by cricinfo.

“We’ve got some talented young batsmen like Wesley Madhevere and a good group of bowlers.

“In the middle period, we had to attack the spinners more aggressively, but we’re getting there.

“This is the first series against Pakistan for a number of the guys. Brilliant series, and we’ve done nothing but improve. We’re really excited for the Test series now.”

The positives going into test is that Williams and the experienced Brendan Taylor are expected to be fully fit for the challenge.

Taylor missed the first T20I recovering from an infection while Williams missed the second one due to a soft tissue injury.
