Colleges in Zimbabwe have been ordered to turn away unvaccinated students. Schools reopened recently after a long period of closure as authorities rolled out an intensive vaccination exercise.

On Tuesday, ZTN Correspondent, Tichaona Chikono witnessed unvaccinated students at Harare Polytechnic College being turned away at the gate.

They were being asked to present vaccination certificates at the entrance.

Secretary for higher and tertiary education, Professor Fanuel Tagwira said the Polytechnic is doing the right thing, adding that other learning institutions must follow suit.

“You cannot enter without a vaccination card. Even companies are now not allowing people to enter without being vaccinated. So I don’t know why people think they should take unvaccinated people because the risk is to the lecturer and other students.

“What we are basically saying is get vaccinated. If you have a medical reason why you can’t be vaccinated then bring the letter. We really can’t just have a person say I don’t want to be vaccinated but I want to come to class, yet they are actually spreading the risk to other people,” he said.
