Driving schools push for re-opening

The Zimbabwe Driving Schools Association is engaging the Government on what needs to be done before its members are allowed to reopen for business.

ZDSA national council chairperson Prosper Dowa is confident that the association’s members, who shut doors in March when Zimbabwe introduced a lockdown aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19, will soon be allowed to operate.

“The association submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development the guidelines we intend to following to minimize the risk of transmitting Covid 19.

“We did our research to make sure that we are compliant with the Government and WHO guidelines regarding. Since our clients are aged 16years and above we expect them to be responsible enough to adapt to the measures put in place to safeguard their lives and that of others.

“Our training does not involve the conventional school class room sitting setup hence it is believed that transmission of the virus can be minimized during both training and testing at VID while following the guidelines,” he said.

Dowa warned some aspiring drivers against resorting to acquiring fake drivers’ licences.

“It is our fear that some desperate clients are being duped by fraudsters who are issuing fake Driver’s licences to unsuspecting learner drivers who are in need of the documents to secure employment. But our advice to them is to wait for resumption of business. Taking shortcuts always turns out to be costly. The Zimbabwe Driving Schools Owners Association wishes to reassure our existing and aspiring clients that significant ground has been covered in our engagements with Government and other relevant authorities,” he said.
