Ecocash hiccups persist

Disgruntled customers are making a beeline to Econet Zimbabwe offices to register their displeasure as the company’s mobile money service – Ecocash – continues to experience hiccups.

Ecocash is said to have undergone an upgrade a week ago but some of the mobile money transfer platform users believe service has become worse after the supposed upgrade.

A number of people were left stranded over the weekend and could not transact as the platform continued to encounter a number of glitches.

A ZTN crew spoke to some miffed customers in Harare.

“The Ecocash platform is malfunctioning, yesterday I bought electricity worth $300, but I did not receive my token. I sell chickens and because I don’t have power, the chickens have now gone bad,” said one customer who refused to be named.

Ezra Magombe, another customer said he, is struggling to get a transaction reversed.

“I have been waiting for that issue to be addressed since the 19th. I came here and was told the money would be reversed, but after all this time nothing has happened,” he said.

A man who sought to buy medication via Ecocash has neither received the medication nor his money back.

“I am suffering, when you try to transfer money you lose it. They will be saying they are conducting an upgrade, then later say the upgrade is complete but the problem persists,” said Mr Mandeya.

Ecocash management could not be reached to comment on the matter but the company last week sent out a text message announcing that the platform was up and running.

“Ecocash Update: The platform performance has improved but some customers may still experience isolated service issues. Please bear with us as we resolve all issues,” reads the text.
