Econet has become the latest company to enforce a temporary shut down of all its branches after some members of their staff tested positive for Covid-19.

A statement released on their microblogging site, Twitter, to announce the shut down of their shops with effect from tomorrow, (Wednesday) says in part,

“All Econet Shops will be temporarily closed, effective Wednesday July 22, 2020 until further notice.”

As Covid-19 infections within Zimbabwean communities grow, the Telecommunications company joins two medical aid societies in Harare, the Catholic Cathedral, and three companies that have recorded infections, and two deaths, which resulted in some temporary closures of facilities for disinfection and extensive testing of staff.

Some concerned citizens have said that government should reintroduce the level four lock-down while some are calling for companies to decongest the workplace by only allowing essential staff to report for duty.
