Zimbabwe’s Energy Minister Advocate Fortune Chasi has threatened to pull the plug on the firm running the country’s electricity payment platform.

This follows transaction difficulties that domestic pre-paid power users are facing.

The platform, contracted by the Zimbabwe Electricity Distribution Company, often stalls, resulting in customers failing to reload power.

Advocate Chasi told ZTN: “I had a meeting with both Zesa and the contractor, and I emphasised that we do not expect the public to experience difficulties in buying power for which the Government has made so much effort to make available. It’s unacceptable.”

He continued: “It’s clear to me that we need a short term solution which makes the platform efficient regardless of the number of customers at any given time.

“We are now looking at the entire contractual arrangements, our preference at the moment is that we need local support.”
