In a rare feat of rage, a 37-year-old woman from Mhondoro has been arrested after she allegedly threw her two children – aged five months and the other three years – into a 17-meter-deep well after a misunderstanding with her husband on Saturday.
Shamiso Isaya has since been charged with infanticide after the five months old baby died in the well while the three-year-old was rescued by neighbours and taken to hospital for treatment.
The police confirmed the incident.
“ZRP Mubaira has arrested Shamiso Isaya (37) in connection with a case of infanticide which occurred at Katsande village, Mubaira, on 22 October where the suspect allegedly threw her two children aged five months and three years, into a 17-metre-deep well after a misunderstanding with her husband. The five-month-old female infant drowned, while the three-year-old boy was rescued by neighbours and rushed to a local clinic, where he was treated and discharged,” the police said.
Meanwhile, a tout was on Friday arrested for murder after hitting a man after a scuffle over $350 loading fees.
“On 21 October police in Harare arrested Blessing Stephen (40) for a case of murder which occurred along Leopold Takawira Road near Parirenyatwa Hospital on the same date at around 1515 hours. The suspect, who is a tout, allegedly struck the victim, Mafu Sipho (58), twice on the face with a fist after the victim had snatched ZWL$350, which the suspect got paid after loading a city-bound mushika-shika Honda Fit vehicle,” the police said.
