FC Platinum face test of purity

FC Platinum believe they have been given a golden opportunity to market themselves when they face record African Champions Al Ahly of Egypt in a group B contest of the Caf Champions League on Saturday.

The Zimbabwean champions have lost their opening two matches in group B of the mini-league stage.

Despite the imposing profile of the Egyptians, FC Platinum midfielder Perfect Chikwende believes it is an ideal platform to market their brand.

“Everyone wants to play in this game, and (there will be competition for places).

“They are a big club but we believe it is a chance to market ourselves as players as well as to market the club, so everyone is looking forward to this game,” said Chikwende.

The miners had a long trip from Zimbabwe to Egypt and the technical department felt a day’s training at the match venue on the eve of the game will suffice.

Assistant coach Patrick Mandizha is anticipating a good outing.

“The travelling was a bit hectic for the players, so we decided to give the players a rest and we will train with the ball on the field of play a day before the match. It is a tough game and Al Ahly is a very good side, but I believe anything in football can happen.

“We are going into the match very confident, and I am also confident that we will shock them and come with a good result,” said Mandizha.
