Zimbabwe’s representatives in the CAF Champions League – FC Platinum – punched above their weight to hold Egyptian giants Al Ahly to a 1-all draw in Bulawayo on Saturday.

The Zimbabweans dared the record African champions when they took a first half lead.

Debutant Stanley Ngala warmed himself to the miners faithful when he scored in the opening stanza.

The Egyptians summoned their vast loads of international football experience when they salvaged a point later in the second half.

The stalemate gave FC Platinum their first point in the group stages.

With only a single point after four matches, chances of progression appear to be very slim but their performance against the Egyptians is encouraging.

Dutch coach Pieter de Joghn was not on the touchline, and Lizwe Sweswe led the team.

Sweswe was happy with the performance of his team.

“We played very well and the performance of the guys was good. It is unfortunate we did not win but our performance was encouraging,” said Sweswe.
