Five family members perished in an inferno that occurred in Eyestone suburb, Waterfalls on Wednesday night as the family was preparing their evening meal. A gas explosion is suspected to have caused the fire which killed Mr Gozhora (35), his wife and three daughters aged ten, seven and thirteen months.
Mr Gozhora was in the business of selling LPG gas to residents at their two roomed cabin cottage.
According to witnesses, the explosion from the 48 kg gas tank ripped through the roof and landed 80 metres from the homestead.
A neighbour, Mr Wilson Toungana, said they were left helpless as the inferno engulfed the Gozhora’s
dwelling almost immediately.
The charred remains of the five family members were retrieved mid-morning on Thursday.
When ZTN visited the homestead, technical members of the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera), were on sight conducting preliminary investigations to ascertain the cause of the blast.
Meanwhile national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident
in a twitter post, saying investigations were underway.
