Former Zim Vice-President assumes new role

Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu-PF has appointed new leaders to key positions, with former Vice-President Kembo Mohadi now heading party affairs.Mohadi resigned from Government in March 2021 following allegations of immoral behaviour.

He refutes the allegations, and has remained Zanu-PF Vice-President and Second Secretary.

Finance and Economic Development Secretary Patrick Chinamasa is the acting political commissar following incumbent Victor Matemadanda’s reassignment to Mozambique as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador.

Mashonaland West provincial chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi ascends to the Politburo.

Party spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo told journalists in the capital, Harare, on Wednesday: “The President has announced that the Second Secretary of the Party Cde Kembo Mohadi has been re-deployed at the party headquarters on full time basis in charge of party affairs.“Cde Chinamasa is the party’s acting political commissar until the President appoints a substantive national political commissar.” 

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the Politburo on Wednesday endorsed a plan for party structures to prepare for 2023 elections. 

Regarding Covid-19 vaccination, he said: “The Politburo recommended that the challenge of distance be addressed to ensure people do not have to move long distances to access vaccines.”
