Multitudes send-off George Chigova

Former Zimbabwe national team and Dynamos goalkeeper George Chigova, will be buried in Chivhu today (Friday), according to a statement issued by the family.

The burial had originally been set for Saturday.

Chigova died in South Africa on Wednesday last week. He had been diagnosed with a heart condition in July this year.

It was an emotional moment at Rufaro stadium yesterday, as thousands of Zimbabweans and Dynamos fans converged to pay their last respects to the departed footballer. Many described him as a humble, gentle giant and one of the finest footballers this country has ever produced.

Chigova achieved greatness at a tender age while playing for Gunners FC from 2010-2012, before joining Dynamos FC for which he played up to 2014. He also played for Super Sport United from 2014 to 2015 and Polokwane City from 2015 to 2020.

The former warriors goal keeper leaves behind wife Nokuthula Mangena and two children.

Mourners are gathered at the late goalkeeper’s home in Chivhu.
