Four killed in Zim helicopter crash

Three Air Force of Zimbabwe staff died in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe’s Acturus area near the capital, Harare, on Friday.

A girl who was playing in the family yard also died when the chopper hit the ground.

In a statement, the Air Force of Zimbabwe said; “An Air Force of Zimbabwe Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412) helicopter from Number 8 Sqn at Manyame Air Force Base (Manyame AFB) crashed in the Hukuru Area in Acturus on 23 April 2021.”

The helicopter took off from Manyame Air Force Base with two pilots and one aircraft technician on board on a General Handling training sortie.

The base activated a search and rescue operation after failing to establish contact with the aircraft. Air Force of Zimbabwe Commander Air Marshal Elson Moyo said; “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives after the unfortunate accident. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured after the accident.”
