Rocks are the Logan Cup Champions.

It’s a remarkable comeback story that will be talked about for years.

From rock bottom to champions is the tale of this team, disbanded seven years ago due to Zimbabwe Cricket’s financial woes at that time.

Old Hararians is where all the magic happened for this team from one of Zimbabwe’s oldest cities.

Eagles were the victims, losing by an innings and 119 runs.

Rocks’ victory put them on an unassailable 30-point mark with one round of matches to play.

This shows how good the team has been.

They would certainly want to cap it off with an unbeaten season when they play Mountaineers next week.

As much as the 2020/21 season will be remembered for the bubbles and the lockdowns, the story of this Rocks team will stand out.

It’s a season that could also see the return of batman Roy Kaia in national colours since 2015.

He is in top form.

Kaia followed his ton against Rhinos with a 96 in his team’s only innings against Eagles.

He has reportedly got the attention of the selectors.

Tendai Chisoro, a Rocks’ son who had been adopted by Rhinos all this while, would be proud to have captained his hometown team to a historic feat.

Chisoro was stand-in captain for Richmond Mutumbami, another Rocks son who had been nomadic since the disbandment of this team.

Some had already given Rocks’ coach Shepherd Makunura the ‘Mr Logan Cup’ moniker following three consecutive titles with his former team Mountaineers.

Well he has added another one.

Indeed, he has made it his own.

With Stanley Chioza as the team’s assistant, Rocks had an experienced cricket mind who has been the national team’s analyst for quite a while.

Cephas Zhuwao, an experienced campaigner, is the team’s player-coach.

To set up the season, Rocks had overseas flavour in their roster with Zimbabwean born Dutch player Shane Snater and Ben Curran in their books.

Add the returning Blessing Muzarabani, Sikandar Raza (who started his professional career at Rocks) and a bunch of talented younger players, and you have a champion team.

Comebacks make great sports stories and this is a lovely tale of a rock solid team that rocked to glory in the 2020/21 Logan Cup season.

And by the way burly left arm seamer Andre Ordendaal did the coup de grace, bagging the final Eagles wicket by uprooting the leg stump of number 11 batsman Tadiwa Nyangani who was on debut.

The team huddled up, with high fives flying around, pats on the back, job done, well done lads.

The Rocks resurrected!
