There was no joy for flamboyant businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure after chief magistrate Chrispen Mberewere denied him bail Friday and remanded him in custody to 20 February.
Kadungure is accused of defrauding the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority US$58 665 involving the importation of his Bentley Continental from South Africa which he allegedly undervalued.
In his bail application the businessman’s lawyers said Kadungure cooperated with police by reporting to the police station on Monday 3 February when he was called for questioning.
However, the State opposed his bail application arguing that Kadungure is a flight risk but Mberewere dismissed this saying there was no evidence he would abscond.
The Magistrate went on to deny Kadungure bail on the basis that the flamboyant businessman committed the alleged crime while on bail for a similar offence.
Defence lawyer Brighton Pabwe said he would take the matter to the High Court.
