Gvt, Civil servants in salaries meeting

Spread the love

Government workers in Zimbabwe are locked in a meeting with their employer in Harare as they push for a salary increase.

The civil servants argue their earnings have been severely eroded by inflation.

Sources insider the meeting told ZTN that the two parties appear to agree on the need for a salary review.

ā€œThere is an appreciation that the workersā€™ concerns are genuine but what needs to be settled is by how much the salaries will increased by,ā€ said one official.

Last week the Apex Council ā€“ which represents civil servants ā€“ disclosed that they want salaries pegged against the interbank exchange rate.

Government says linking the salaries to the interbank rate is desirable but highlights that it currently has no capacity to do so.

More to follow ā€¦.
