Members of 20 housing co-operatives in Zimbabwe’s capital city, Harare, will lose properties after the courts ruled their occupation illegal.
The cooperatives are ldeal homes, Home Angels, Bantu, Tembwe, Nyabira, Greenlands, Takakura and Chitepo, among others.
Harare City Council told the courts that the co-operatives were allocating residential and commercial stands to land-seekers without approval.
Several eviction notices were served in vain.
Harare City Council spokesperson Michel Chideme said Town House will demolish affected properties.
“We are not going to tell you the dates because we have done so before. But it’s true; Harare City has won a court case against 20 housing co-operatives who have illegally allocated themselves land in and around the capital.”
