Harare man ‘employs’ 300 ghost workers

A 27-year-old man from Harare’s Glen Lorne suburb allegedly employed 300 ghost workers and prejudiced his employer of about 25 thousand United States dollars.

Blessing Hove who was employed by Goal Zimbabwe as a Human Resources and Administration Clerk appeared in court on Tuesday facing fraud charges. 

It is alleged that from October 2020 to August 2021, Hove forged documents and his boss’s signature on contracts of 300 non-existent employees. 

Hove, who was responsible for processing workers’ salaries, allegedly processed payment of the 300 ghost workers and converted the money to his own use.

The contract forms for the ghost workers were checked and it was discovered that the organisation had not employed those 300 workers but the accused was receiving the money for their salaries and converting the money to his own use.

After the offence had been discovered, the accused resigned without giving notice and the complainant then made a police report leading to his arrest.

Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi remanded Hove out of custody to the 29th of November.
