Churches in Harare have been warned against noise pollution caused by Public Address systems that are used during services.

Harare City Council said, “singing and preaching in the middle of residential areas is not encouraged”.

Posting on their official Twitter page, the city fathers said some residents were unhappy with the noise pollution caused by churches in their neighbourhoods.

“Residents want you to be considerate and accept that not everyone wants to listen to your music and preaching,” Council told churches.

It added, “Church buildings are mandated to be sound proof. There is need to respect the privacy of other residents who want to rest and enjoy home time.”

The World Health Organisation stipulates that noise should not exceed 55 decibels during the day and should be less than 35dB at night in residential areas.
