Zimbabwean journalist and political activist Hopewell Chin’ono has undergone medical tests following reports that he had fallen ill while in remand prison.
According to his lawyer, Douglas Coltart, Chino’ono has a high temperature, headache and chest pains.
Coltart said, “Tests have been conducted, and once information is ready to be shared, that information will be made available.”
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services spokesperson Superintendent Meya Khanyezi told journalists on Monday: “As far as we are concerned, he is well, but to our surprise, social media is awash with unconfirmed reports that he is not well.
“However, as the ZPCS, we have allowed his personal doctor to go and see him.”
Chin’ono, who is facing charges of inciting violence, was at the Harare Magistrates Courts for routine remand on Tuesday and will be back on September 14.
The High Court is expected to rule on his bail application on Wednesday.
