ZIMBABWEAN sprinter Ngoni Makusha says he has fulfilled his personal goal of enjoying his first Olympic games.

This is despite failure to progress to the semi-finals of the 100-metre race.

Makusha had earlier finished first with a time of 10.32 seconds in the preliminary round of the Olympic men’s 100m sprint heats.

“I’m really glad that I gave the people something to celebrate about. It would have been nice making it to the semi-finals,” said Makusha.

Makusha’s personal best time is 10.17, but with the extreme conditions on Saturday, it was always going to be tough to do better.

After the first round success, he was then slotted in heat 6 and ran 10.43 seconds, assuming 7th place to seal his Olympic journey.

“This is only the beginning,” he said, adding that he had a great experience.

He added that he will now be looking forward to the World Athletics Championships and next Olympics in Paris.
