ZIMBABWE’S President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commended the University of Zimbabwe for coming up with an education system that is
responsive to the needs of industry and business.

Speaking at the launch of the Innovation Hub at the University of Zimbabwe Campus on Monday, President Mnangagwa commended
the institution for the innovation, which he said will provide solutions to the needs of Zimbabweans.

An innovation hub is a prototype where academic ideas are converted into bankable products and services that can be adopted by industry.

“I am delighted to see the University of Zimbabwe embracing and actualising our modernisation and new education drive through the successful establishment of this Innovation Hub.

“I commend the University of Zimbabwe for judiciously utilising the resources allocated from Treasury by constructing this facility,
internally, using the University’s Department of Works,” President Mnangagwa said.

He added; “It further attests to the fact that the University of Zimbabwe is transforming to meaningfully contribute towards our national development through comprehensive strategies, which directly address innovation
and industrialisation.”

In an interview after the event, Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister, Professor Amon Murwira said the new approach is an intentional break from the past.

“When we told people of Innovation Hubs, they thought we were daydreaming but this is a sign that we are not paying lip service but
implementing. These hubs will be central to the re-industrialisation of the country,” Professor Murwira said.
