Zimbabwe Cricket head coach Lalchand Rajput says retired senior bowler Kyle Jarvis will be missed, but the coach is however excited about his current group of bowlers.

Jarvis announced his retirement from all forms of cricket last week, ending a career that earned him 13 Test, 49 ODIs and 22 T20 Internationals.

With Jarvis gone, Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani take the reigns to spearhead the bowling attack.

“He will definitely be missed, he had a lot of experience which he passed on to youngsters,” said Rajput in an interview with ZTN.

“Now we have got (Tendai) Chatara who has been around and his experience will definitely count. “Muzarabani is experienced. He played County and now he is playing in a different league, Ngarava is coming up, Victor (Nyauchi) is there, Bonnie (Tapiwa Mufudza), (Luke) Jongwe) …so if you look at the group the senior guys have to take that role of helping the younger guys,” Rajput said.

Zimbabwe is preparing to host Bangladesh for a solitary Test, three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals.

The tour will start with the Test match slated for July 7-11 before the ODI series scheduled for July 16, 18 and 20. The T20I concludes the tour with matches on 23, 25 and 27 July. All matches are at Harare Sports Club.

The squad is going about their business in Harare without Muzarabani who is active in the Pakistan Super League. The competition ends on July 24 with Muzarabani’s Multan Sultans taking on Peshawar Zalmi in the final”.

He is expected to join Zimbabwe’s camp in the following week.

Rajput believes Muzarabani’s rise and recognition is motivation for his Zimbabwe teammates to perform and attract some T20 league stints.

“It really helps you and it’s a motivation for other guys that if I do well I might get a contract in the other leagues,” he said.

“If you look at players from different countries they go and play in different leagues because you rub shoulders with the best players, you interact with some of the best bowlers from around the world.”
