Police in Mashonaland East are investigating a case in which Garikayi Munetsi (42) of Madziyanhiyo Village under Chief Nyamukoho, Mudzi allegedly murdered his ex-wife, Alice Kayingwe (22) in cold blood after he spotted her walking home with her boyfriend.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovechii confirmed the incident to ZTN and implored the public to value the sanctity of life.

“Police are appealing to members of the public to value the sanctity of life. Police are also appealing to members of the public to give information that may lead to the arrest of the accused person.

People should learn to solve their issues amicably or to involve third parties who are either the police, relatives or community leaders,” said inspector Chazovechii.

According to police sources, on Monday evening, Alice Kayingwe left Kudenga shop at Suswe Business Centre, Mudzi where she was drinking beer in the company of her boyfriend Tinashe Shoko (27) of Katena village. It is further alleged that the accused person reportedly emerged from behind running. He allegedly picked up a stone and threw it at Tinashe Shoko, while threatening to kill him without specifying the reason. Tinashe ran away leaving Alice behind.

“The accused person’s brother Trust Munetsi (31) who was proceeding home from Suswe Business Centre using the same path, found his brother stabbing Alice Kayingwe with a knife several times and tried to restrain him in vain as he was also threatened.”

It is further said that out of fear he alerted other villagers and they teamed up and rushed to the scene where they found Alice lying helpless in a ditch, bleeding profusely.

“They ferried her home using a wheelbarrow. Alice reportedly died around midnight, Monday.”
