A newborn who was abducted at a shopping centre in Harare’s Avenues area last week has been found – alive.

Three-week-old Tamiranashe Chadwick was discovered at a home in Murombedzi, about 100 kilometres from Harare.

Police raided the home after a tip-off.

The suspect escaped, and her husband is “assisting police with investigations”.

Though Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not immediately comment, Tamiranashe’s grandmother Euna Mbuyatembo told ZTN on Tuesday: “We were called to Murombedzi Police Station last night.

We went there (on Tuesday morning) and managed to positively identify the baby.”

Sources said the suspect lied to her husband that she had given birth at Harare’s Belvedere Maternity Home.

A neighbour, however, linked the sudden emergence of the baby at the suspect’s home to the kidnapping in Harare.

She immediately alerted investigators.
