Zimbabwe should not lower its guard in the fight against Covid-19, as cases of the virus continue to rapidly increase, the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa warned on Monday.
He said this in a televised 40th Heroes Day Anniversary speech.
According to latest data from the Health Ministry, 104 people have died from the virus, as cases rose to 4 649.
Over 70 percent of the cases are local transmissions.
President Mnangagwa said, “In view of the upsurge of COVID-19 infections and deaths, we all need to be more vigilant in fighting this scourge.
“We must all adhere to the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines which include wearing masks, social distancing and practicing good hygiene”.
The President said Government will continue to scale up testing, contact tracing and isolating those who test positive for the virus.
Zimbabwe has carried out 149 748 tests since the onset of the pandemic in March this year.
