One person was killed while two others were seriously injured after a lightning bolt struck in eastern Zimbabwe’s Manicaland province on Tuesday.

The injured are being treated at Victoria Chitepo hospital.

The three were employed by the Grain Marketing Board provincial depot.

In another incident, a school in Zvishavane was destroyed by a hailstorm on Monday.

Civil Protection Unit director, Nathan Nkomo said, “When the victims were struck by lightning, one died on the spot, two were taken to hospital and I am sure as we are speaking they are still at Victoria Chitepo hospital or they might have been taken to another private hospital.”

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Services Department says the country will experience violent storms in the next few days, with some areas expected to receive up to 44 millimetres of rain.

Chief forecaster in the department, James Ngoma said, “We advise the public that when thunder rolls, it’s best to stay indoors, park your cars. and do not drive when visibility is greatly reduced because of these heavy downpours that we are expecting in the next few days over different areas.”
