Man Steals USD$18770, Caught Driving New Merc

A Harare man appeared in court on Wednesday facing theft charges, after he vanished with USD$18770.
The court heard that on the 21 st of October at around 15:30 hrs the complainant parked his Toyota Fortuner at a restaurant along Jason Moyo Avenue, Harare. He secured his vehicle and property by closing all windows and locking
the doors.
While he was away, Ralph Zvinavashe proceeded to the complainant’s car and used an unknown object to force open the driver’s door and stole USD$18770 which was in a small bag under the driver’s seat and went away.
Zvinavashe was seen by police detectives who were on surveillance in the vicinity before the crime was committed. He was later caught driving a Mercedes Benz which he bought after committing the offence and failed to explain the source of the money.
He was also found in possession of a T-bar and remote control which is used to commit theft from cars.
Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi remanded Zvinavashe in custody for bail application tomorrow (Thursday).
