Mapeza record stands

THE Premier Soccer League will have to wait for another season to break the record set by Norman Mapeza since the league increased to 18 teams in 2017.
Current log leaders Caps United will not reach the 78-point mark, a 76.5 percent success rate, even if they win all their remaining nine matches.
CAPS, who are five points clear at the top of the log with 47 points, can now only reach a possible 74 points.
If they drop points in any of the remaining matches, Caps United will also not be in a position to surpass the 2017 record of 72 points set by the same coach, Mapeza.
Mapeza has since left FC Platinum and is now in charge at Chippa United in South Africa.
CAPS United coach Darlington Dodo however believes what is important for now is just winning their games. They face Hwange at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
“What we need to do is to look at the Hwange game and consolidate our lead. We have to keep on grinding results. Forget about what is happening elsewhere. We just need to play our games,” Dodo said.
Dodo have surprised many, managing to maintain the momentum even after the departure of Lloyd Chitembwe. Their 47 points collected so far from a possible 75 points is a 62.7 percent success rate.
Whatever happens by end of year, this will go down as one of the most
competitive seasons with at least 6 teams still in the race of the title.
Records for now will be the least of Dodo’s worries.
“By so doing (concentrating on our matches), we will be enhancing our chances of achieving what we want to achieve,” said Dodo.
