Former Warriors coach Norman Mapeza resigned as head coach of ABSA premiership side Chippa United on Monday night. This came up after he steered the team to a 1-0 win over AmaZulu and  five points clear off the relegation zone.

The club is on 11th position on the ABSA premiership table with 25 points.

South African media reported that Mapeza was locked for hours in an urgent meeting with the Chippa United hierarchy where he could tender his resignation while the Chilli Boys bosses were convincing him to stay.

According to TeamLive, the meeting failed to resolve the impasse, which is believed to stem from a misunderstanding over the duties of the technical staff.

Long-serving Chippa United lieutenant Mbuyiselo Sambu will temporarily hold fort as the Chilli Boys prepare for an away from home league clash against Bidvest Wits this Saturday.

“Yes I have been asked to take over the coaching duties until a new coach has been found”.

Mapeza signed a deal with Chippa United in October last year after leaving Zimbabwe champions FC Platinum.
