The wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has applied for bail at the High Court in the capital, Harare.

Her lawyers filed the papers on Wednesday; also appealing against dismissal of her earlier bail application by a Harare magistrate.

The High Court is yet to hear both appeal and bail application.

Marry Mubaiwa is accused of trying to kill the Vice-President while he was hospitalised in South Africa in July 2019.

She is also facing foreign currency externalisation, money-laundering and fraud charges.

Mubaiwa was arrested last Saturday for the alleged financial impropriety, while the attempted murder charge was preferred during her initial court appearance on Monday.

Prosecutors say Mubaiwa visited VP Chiwenga in hospital on July 8, 2019.

She allegedly granted his security details leave, saying she wanted privacy with her husband.

The former model then allegedly removed an intravenous supply kit and catheter from the Vice-President, leaving him bleeding profusely.

She allegedly forced him off the bed and out of the hospital ward.

Security is said to have intercepted her, and hospital staff attended the VP.

Mubaiwa was remanded in custody to December 30, 2019 for the attempted murder charge.
