Sensei Sneider Adam leads a self-funded team of three Karatekas who will represent Zimbabwe at the 10 th edition of the Japanese Ambassador cup in Zambia.
Eight-year-old Tawanda Nyatwa, Simbai Jonathan and Sensei Adam leave Zimbabwe today (Thursday) for the tournament that starts on Monday.
Sensei Adam promised fireworks as he is expecting all the fighters to scoop gold medals.
“In Zambia we are expecting everyone to perform well and all our participants to get gold medals. “We have been training hard for this competition and I am also confident of doing very well at the tournament,” he said.
“The major challenge we had in the build-up to this tournament is lack of funding and parents had to help in catering for the welfare of the players,” said Sensei Adam.
Zimbabwe is renowned for its Karate excellence and recently six-year-old Andrew Xaba, 17-year-old Hassley Mapanzure and their sensei David Dube represented Zimbabwe at the South African Japanese Karate Association and brought home medals.
The country is also home to reigning full contact karate world champion Shihan Samson Muripo.
