More patients were discharged from hospital after recovering from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across China on Wednesday, including one who was the first confirmed case in Shiyan City of central China’s Hubei Province (one of the worst-hit cities).

The 61-year-old patient named Zhang was living in the provincial capital city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the epidemic outbreak in mid-December. He fell sick on January 12 and went to the hospital on January 19 after he went back to Shiyan. Later on, he was confirmed with COVID-19 on January 23, making him the first confirmed case of the highly contagious disease in Shiyan City. Zhang also suffers from diseases including hypertension, so he was in critical condition for 13 days.

After careful treatment, his physical condition stabilised and he was allowed to leave the hospital after the nucleic acid test showed a negative result four times.

“I am so happy. The doctors saved my life. I would like to extend my gratitude to them once more,” Zhang said.

In east China’s Anhui Province, a total of 37 patients cured of the disease were discharged from hospital on Wednesday, increasing the number of discharged cases in the province to 764.

A 48-year-old patient named Chen was admitted to hospital on February 12. After treatment, he has recovered from the disease and left the hospital in Bozhou City on Wednesday.

Four more recovered patients were discharged from hospital in Yinchuan City, in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on Wednesday, driving up the number of discharged cases in the region to 65.

As of Wednesday, there were still six confirmed patients in the region under medical treatment.
