Mozambique insurgency: Zimbabwe searches for missing Citizens

Zimbabwe is investigating reports that two of its citizens may have been affected by the recent
terrorist attacks in Mozambique’s coastal town of Palma.

This follows desperate appeals by a Zimbabwean family, whose 38-year-old son Nyasha Mugwagwa
went missing on March 24 when the attacks occurred.

In an interview with ZTN on Friday, Acting Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister,
Professor Amon Murwira, said “We have reports from our consular services in Mozambique that
there might be at least two Zimbabweans affected by this insurgency and we are in the process of
verifying everything.”

He added, “As you know, with this level of confusion there could be more people affected.”

The Islamic insurgency in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado region has claimed scores of lives and
displaced thousands of people.

Last week the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) resolved to deploy troops to
Mozambique to thwart the insurgency.

A SADC Double Troika Summit on Thursday directed “an immediate technical deployment” to deal
with the acts of terrorism in the Southern African country.
