Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, who died early on Friday, has been declared a national hero.

National hero status is the highest individual honour in Zimbabwe.

Mugabe, who died at the age of 95 in Singapore, was Zimbabwe`s first Prime Minister and Executive President.

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa told media at State House in the capital Harare last night: ā€œZanu-PF, the party which the late President founded, has met and accorded him national hero status which he earned and deserved.ā€

President Mnangagwa declared days of national mourning.
