The fury and criticism vented on Zimbabwe Warriors captain Knowledge Musona is unfair and unjustifiable, says former Young Warriors coach, Rodwell Dhlakama.

Dhlakama worked with Musona and Khama Billiat at junior national team level and also recommended them together with Mathew Rusike to Monomotapa.

The Warriors captain has been subjected to heavy criticism following an uncharacteristically below par performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt.

Dhlakama conceded that Musona has not been at his best, but “his best days are not yet behind him”.

“Musona has not been at his best. The criticism is a bit too much. He missed some glorious chances but that is part of football.

“He has not had the best of seasons and in football it is expected that he will not be razor sharp. Nevertheless, that does not mean he is bad: he needs one or two games to get back in the groove.”

Dhlakama continued, “Against Uganda I do not think he was that bad; the goal just failed to come. If you look at his contribution in the build-up to the Khama goal, you will see that he is a great player.

“The way he ran into space and created room for himself gives me confidence that he is good and might get his scoring touch in the next game.”

Zimbabwe play the DRC in the last game and still have a realistic chance of qualifying as one of the third best-placed teams.
