Mysterious fire destroys murder suspect’s kitchen hut

A mysterious fire on Friday night destroyed a kitchen hut at the homestead of Thanks Makore who was in remand prison for allegedly killing his seven-year-old nephew for ritual purposes.

The inferno was reported hours after Makore had been granted bail.
Barely a month ago, Makore’s twin and co-accused Tapiwa Makore Senior’s kitchen hut also caught fire mysteriously.

ZTN arrived at Thanks’ homestead on Saturday morning as forensic experts combed the place for clues.

The murder suspects’ elder brother, Shadreck, told ZTN that a cousin had raised alarm when the fire broke out.

“My cousin who was staying at Thanks’ homestead woke me up at midnight. The hut and gazebo were on fire.

“I am still wondering how the kitchen caught fire because it’s barely a month since we witnessed Tapiwa Makore Senior’s hut also being burnt down to ashes.”

A neighbour, Tendai Muzura, chipped in: “I was passing through Makore’s homestead when I realised that his hut had been reduced to ashes.
“We made a police report. It’s shocking, indeed.”

High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi granted Thanks bail, saying there was no evidence linking him to the murder.

He characterised prosecution’s case as “weak”.

In Murehwa where the alleged ritual murder occurred, Chief Mangwende assented to the burial of Tapiwa Makore’s remains. The burial is scheduled for January 9 2021.
