Aston Villa have completed the signing of Marvellous Nakamba from Belgian Giants Club Brugge, making the midfielder the fourth player from Zimbabwe to play in the English topflight league.
The Zimbabwe international joined Villa after the club paid £11m to complete a reported five-year contract.
“For me to be here, it feels fantastic,” said Nakamba speaking to his club’s website.
“I am looking forward to playing against some of the best players in the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world.
“It is a dream for me to be competing among the best players in the world,” he said.
Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith is quoted by English media showering praises on the midfield kingpin.
“Marvelous fits the criteria of the type of player we were looking for.
“He is very mobile, he’s very good in possession, and he will fit in with our style of play,” said Smith.
Nakamba joins an elite league of Zimbabweans who have played in the EPL, namely, Bruce Grobbelaar, Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari.
The move also makes him the country’s highest profile player.
