The National Gallery of Zimbabwe will reopen its doors on November 5, with two exhibitions, “The Point of View” by David Palacios, and “Aftershock: Re-imagining Life After Cyclone Idai”.

The iconic institution has been a lifeless space since March when it closed its doors after the Government imposed restrictive measures to combat Covid-19.

While the Palacios exhibition was the gallery’s first lockdown victim and never got to be shown to the public, the latter was launched online but now people have the opportunity to physically view both for free from the 5th to the 20th of November.

Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Kirsty Coventry will be the guest of honour on the opening day.

This will also mark the beginning of a new era under the leadership of the gallery’s new Executive Director, Raphael Chikukwa.

“This is an opportunity for the audiences to view our two exhibitions that have been in quarantine since March,” said Chikukwa.

“We have the Point of View by a Cuban artist David Palacios and the Cyclone Idai exhibition that marks one year after the natural disaster.

“It is unfortunate that we are now confronted by yet another disaster, Covid-19, that has changed the cultural landscape.”

These two exhibitions will be viewed for free until November 20 but will run until early next year and the gallery has pledged to follow all Covid-19 pandemic guidelines.
