Zimbabwean authorities say it is no longer business as usual after reports that one person has tested positive for Coronavirus in neighboring South Africa.

There is a huge volume of human traffic between Zimbabwe and South Africa. According to Africa check, three million Zimbabweans are living in South Africa.

Anxiety has gripped Zimbabweans following reports that  a 38-year-old South African
who had travelled to Italy with his wife tested positive for the virus.

Health and Child Care Minister, Dr Obadiah Moyo said the Government was puling all stops to protect its citizens from the virus.

“Now that it’s (the virus) in SA which is so closer to home, this means we have to be fully prepared,” he said.

He added that the Government was confident that South African authorities would contain the virus.

“While it is frightening that the virus is next door, we are confident that South African authorities will do their best to contain it,” he said.

Zimbabwe has so far dealt with two suspected cases of the virus, but both cases have tested negative.

Coronavirus first broke out in China late last year. Over 95 000 cases have been confirmed worldwide to date.
