Police in Zimbabwe have arrested two suspects over last week’s murder of two seven-year-olds in Nyanga district.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “On Friday, police in Mutasa arrested two men (aged 23 and 59) in connection with two cases of murder which occurred at Sambaza Village, Mutasa, on 14/04/21, where two minors were found dead in a disused toilet pit.

“Clothes and a small hoe with suspected blood stains were recovered from the suspects’ homes. Investigations are in progress.”

The pupils went missing on Tuesday after lessons at Saint Robert Mbaza Primary School.

The suspects allegedly waylaid the two cousins as they headed home and slit their throats before stashing their bodies in a blair toilet at an abandoned homestead.

Detectives believe the murders were for rituals.

Barely a month ago, Zimbabwe witnessed the burial of another seven-year-old ritual murder victim, Tapiwa Makore of Murewa.

It is widely believed that ritualists use human parts as wealth-enhancing charms, among other diabolic purposes.
