Of Reforms and Women Empowerment

Visiting South African billionaire Margaret Hirsch believes Zimbabwe is on track with its economic reforms, but says these should be speeded up to turnaround the economy. She said Zimbabwe should move with the global economic tempo in order not to lag behind. The southern African country has embarked on reforms to stabilise the economy which has been on the decline due to sanctions. Hirsch started her business career 40 years ago, launching home appliances company Hirsch’s with her husband Allan. The South African billionaire arrived in Zimbabwe, her country of birth, on Tuesday for a two-day women empowerment visit, and met various women’s groups with the aim of imparting business knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.
After spending time with prefects from Girls’ High and Chisipite Girls High school in Harare, she proceeded to address thousands of learners at both schools, encouraging them to take charge of their own lives in a world that seeks to suppress women.
She is planning to return to Zimbabwe in September for a meeting with local businesswomen in Harare.
